Bukhara State Medical Institute (BSMI), located in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, was established on August 24, 1990, following the Resolution of the USSR Council of Ministers.
BSMI In March 1991, the institute was named after the renowned scholar Abu Ali ibn Sino (Avicenna).
The institute began with the Faculty of Medicine in 1991, followed by the Faculty of Dentistry in 1992. Over the years, BSMI expanded its academic offerings by establishing:
- The Department of Highly Qualified Nurses in 1999
- The Department of Medical Pedagogy in 2001
- The Department of Pediatrics in 2016
- Programs in Medical Prevention and Medical Biology in 2018
As of 2022, BSMI comprises eight faculties and 43 departments, offering bachelor’s degrees in nine areas, master’s degrees in 26 specialties, and clinical residencies in over 40 specialties. The institute serves more than 8,000 students, including 1,727 international students. The faculty consists of 536 members, with 50 holding doctorates and 221 holding PhDs.
BSMI conducts classes in Uzbek, Russian, English, and Turkish, reflecting its commitment to internationalization. The institute is recognized by organizations such as WDOMS, FAIMER, ECFMG, NMC, MCI, and WHO.
Throughout its history, BSMI has focused on advancing medical education and research, contributing significantly to the healthcare sector in Uzbekistan and beyond.
